Mission
Upward Bound is an academic support program for high school students funded by the U.S. Department of Education and the Minnesota Higher Education Office under its Intervention for College Attendance Program. Upward Bound is designed to provide assistance to high school students whose goal is to complete a postsecondary education. The Lake Superior College Upward Bound program serves 50 students in grades 9-12 from targeted area high schools.

TRiO
TRiO is the umbrella name given to seven federally funded Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP) that seek to increase the availability of and success in postsecondary education for disadvantaged, traditionally underserved students.

All activities are provided free of cost to eligible students.

Eligibility
Students whose family income is within U.S. Department of Education guidelines.

Students who are considered to be "first generation college students" (neither parent has earned a four-year degree).

Students who are minorities and who have a need for academic support and express a desire for postsecondary education are encouraged to apply.
